Journalist & Storyteller

I’m a journalist, creative nonfiction writer, and communications strategist with over 15 years of experience telling stories that drive change.

As the daughter of Bangladeshi immigrants—and the child of a mother who was a child bride—I carry with me a layered legacy of resilience, displacement, and survival. That legacy has shaped not only how I move through the world, but why I write. I’ve spent my career amplifying the voices of women, girls, and immigrant communities whose stories are often ignored or misunderstood—bringing nuance, empathy, and urgency to narratives that deserve a global stage.

As a journalist, I’ve reported for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, NPR, Prism Reports, and more, covering migration, displacement, gender, and diaspora communities. My work has taken me from Rohingya refugee camps to South Asian factory floors to immigrant neighborhoods in New York City. I’ve investigated the mental health impact of immigration enforcement on children in mixed-status families and explored how structural violence and cultural legacy shape the everyday lives of the marginalized. I’m also the founder of Port of Entry, a narrative journalism newsletter chronicling the political and personal lives of immigrant communities.

My reporting has been supported by fellowships from the USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism, the Solutions Journalism Network, and the South Asian Journalists Association, allowing me to pursue longform, deeply reported stories that center lived experience.

Alongside journalism, I lead brand and communications strategy for mission-driven organizations. Most recently, I served as the Fractional Communications Director at the South Asian Council for Social Services, where I led the creative and strategic vision for their 25th Anniversary Gala—an effort that significantly boosted the organization’s visibility and donor engagement. I've also led storytelling initiatives at the Center for Reproductive Rights, the World Health Organization, and the United Nations World Food Programme, and developed UX and content strategy for major institutions including Citibank, Wells Fargo, and EAB.

Whether I’m writing a feature or building a campaign, I approach every project with the same belief: storytelling is a tool for liberation—and those closest to the margins deserve to be at the center.

I’m currently based in New York City, where I’m pursuing my MFA in Creative Nonfiction at Hunter College.
